NIKKI GIOVANNI READING ~ SEPTEMBER 2007

World renowned poet, Nikki Giovanni, read from her latest work, "Acolytes", at the Mary Harrison Cultural Arts Center in September 2007. The author packed the house with a turnout of over 400! The Friends had a wonderful selection of the author's books for sale at the event. Ms. Giovanni almost wore out her pen while she signed books for over an hour after the reading was over!  All proceeds from the sale are for the benefit of Calvert Library.

CALVERT COUNTY FAIR ~ SEPTEMBER 2007

The Friends provided books for give-away at the Calvert Library's booth at the county fair. The free books were a big draw and almost as much fun as the coloring contest!

SUPER SIDEWALK BOOK SALE ~ SEPTEMBER 2007

Thanks to your generous donations of used books, the Friends organized an "unscheduled" Super Sidewalk Book Sale in September. The day was hot and the books were hotter! We made over $2100 to benefit the Calvert Library!

HARRY POTTER BOOK RELEASE PARTY ~ JULY 2007

What a party it was! Costumes, games, a Harry Potter movie playing in the large meeting room, prizes, and let's not forget the fabulous Bertie Bott Jelly Beans! The Friends were about in Hogwart's garb, dishing out popcorn, ladling punch and presenting the newest Harry Potter book at exactly 12:05 a.m.!

 

 

 

 

ANNUAL GENTLY USED BOOK SALE ~ APRIL 2007

One of our best loved events, the Annual Gently Used Book Sale is always a success - thanks to the support of the all of our Friends and Neighbors who love a good bargain! Last year was no exception!
